MARCH 2022 Client Spotlight: My Dog, Molly!
I decided to spotlight my own pup, Molly. I got her and her brother in 2015 before I was a trainer. Back then, I was a designer and very unhappy in the field. I decided to get a puppy to try and boost my spirits. I adopted them not knowing that my life would completely change. I am so grateful that I did because if I hadn’t, I never would have become a trainer.
Once our puppies were home, my husband and I had no idea how to take care of them. We did the best we could with what we “thought” was correct. I remember getting home really late that night and feeling completely overwhelmed. Luckily for Molly, she had her brother there to snuggle, which made it easier for her to transition. We brought in her cage and all her supplies and settled into what we thought was going to be a very long night. Surprisingly, she and her brother slept soundly. I’m pretty sure I was more awake than the puppies were.
After a week or so of owning our puppies, we knew that we were in over our heads. One day, Molly ran out the door and across a very busy street. I had no idea how to get her back. That day we sought out the help of a professional trainer. We decided to go with Tails U Win! in Manchester, CT. Our instructor, Cindy showed me the ropes on how to take care of a puppy. After one class, I realized I was doing everything wrong.
Once the class was over, I was so excited and amazed at all training could do. It made such a difference that I decided to become a trainer. I wanted to gain the knowledge necessary to give Molly the best life that I could. I started walking dogs, reading, and volunteering at the local shelter, which I enjoyed immensely. After getting certified through Catch, I decided to expand my knowledge about dogs by volunteering with the Humane Society of the United States Animal Rescue program. I worked on a Great Dane case out of New Hampshire which completely changed my life and made me realize that there is so much more to dogs than I ever realized before.
I successfully completed my CPDT-KA in 2018 and have been continuing my education through various seminars, books, and online classes. I hope to earn my CBCC-KA next year as well. I have fallen in love with training and it really all started with Molly. She is my #1 and I love her to the moon and back. She is CGC certified and participates as a demo dog in many of my personal training. You will probably see her around town and if you do, make sure you have chicken treats at the ready, those are her favorite. <3
